Cold Moon Ritual

The Cold Moon is one of the highest Full Moons of the year making it easy to spot regardless of your location. It also appears to last longer and shine brighter than any other Full Moon of the year.

The Cold Moon signifies the beginning of the cold winter. Both Full Moons and Winter are excellent times to perform a releasing ritual, making the Cold Moon the best for this ritual.

Cold Moon Ritual

  1. Create a sacred space. Gather items - candles, cauldron or fire proof bowl, pen, paper and a lighter or match.

  2. Cleanse each piece you will be using in your ritual and cleanse your own energy. This came be done with smoke, sound, or crystals.

  3. Ground yourself. Using meditation and/or grounding crystals like Jasper, black tourmaline or tigers eye (or any other that you prefer).

  4. Take some time to write down anything that you need to release this year. This could be a fear or a self-limiting belief.

  5. Safely burn the paper. If using a large, regular sized piece of paper, you may want to tear it into four smaller bits for burning.

  6. Use the Full Moon’s energy to bring clarity and to prepare for the new beginnings coming in with the New Moon and the New Year.

  7. Sit with this energy as long as you’d like to. You can journal or meditate as well.

  8. At this point, I prefer to meditate and journal while the candles burn down. However, you can also blow them out at this point - with the intention of releasing the spells energy with your breath.

  9. Release the ashes outside with the wind blowing them away from you, bury them outside or release them under running water.

  10. Thank any deity/spirit guides you e called upon. Thank the Moon for providing this releasing energy.

  11. Clean up your sacred space.

You have completed your ritual and likely feel very at peace. Enjoy this feeling and allow room for the new blessings to enter your life.

When we remove things that are no longer serving us, we make energetic space for new blessings and open ourselves up to receiving them.

This ritual can be done during any Full Moon with similar results. The Cold Moon amplifies the energy of releasing and letting go, so it makes this particular Full Moon perfect for doing this ritual.

Tarot contemplation:

  1. What have I released during this ritual?

  2. What new energy am I making room for in my life?

  3. How can I better release those things that no longer serve me?
